August-inho! ahah

Dear August,

It's always so nice to meet you! You always bring me joy, you never disappoint me :) This summer has been really different, I didn't go to the beach, I didn't spend a weekend with my beautiful sisters in Coimbra, I didn't eat a single Olá icecream (lol), not even lupins and beer with friends, or barbecues with the family... oh man! 4 months for Christmas! almost :)
But as you may know, I went with my handsome boyfriend for a trip. For an awesome trip: Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon and New Orleans. I will show you the photos next week, I promise!

Check the posts from August in case that you're in vacations and you missed them.

10 days, 5 cities

If it was the trip of my life? Well, probably! At least from my 26 years old... This adventure here in USA is really turning dreams into reality. I mean, I never thought living in USA in the first place but then having the opportunity to visit all of these cities (that you see on the movies ;) ).. It's just amazing!!
Pick american cities to explore could be quite exciting, right? The problem is deciding which ones to go :s

Last year when my boyfriend came to see me, we went to Boston, New York and Washington DC (check the posts if you missed them). This time, we went crazier: we visit 5 cities in 10 days!
So now the question is: what cities did we went? Can you guess? ;)

|soblushed| at Carytown

Another collection of photos for my album, this time the background is the lovely Carytown! 10 blocks of cute and lovely stores, boutiques, coffe shops, restaurants.. definitely with a european twist :) Carytown is the place for nice events and festivals such as the watermelon festival, food and wine festival, french film festival... Is the perfect place for a frozen yogurt and a movie at the end of the day. Carytown has also a couple of grocery stores in which Elwood Thompson is my favorite one. It's a really cool this local organic food market.

treat number 4

Put your hands in the air if you like marshmallows!! Yeah! These little sponges have always intrigued me! I'm not a fan of marshmallows "au naturel". I actually prefer them roasted... The flavor is so different! It's so gooood! ;) When I was young, there was a candy cart near my school, where we used to buy candies and 'tripas doces' (a  typical dessert from Aveiro: it's like a crêpe, but more moist and rare and you can choose the filling you want in it!!). Back then, there was an option: tripa with marshmallows, a very innovative thing by the way...
Now, the question is: am I able to do marshmallows from the scratch? Almighty God of the candies and good things, help me in this tough duty!

PS1: Thank you K. for lending me the heavy duty mixer!
PS2: The marshmallows look a lit bit ugly, but like my friend said the beauty comes from within :D
PS3: Next time I have to leave the marshmallow mixture cool down a little bit more that way the chocolate doesn't melt :s

treat number 3

S'mores is a traditional nighttime campfire treat, very popular here in the United States. Who doesn't recognize them from the movies? In fact, I can't stop recognizing all those signs, objects and other stuff that I used to see on movies back in Portugal...It seems like I'm living in a movie! ahahaha... so cool!
Another funny thing: the classic s'mores asks for graham crackers, hershey's milk chocolate and giant marshmallows. However, you can definitely replace the cookies for some "Marias" and a nice square of chocolate of your taste...
Do you want some more S'mores? Come and get it...I've got s'more for you! lolol ;)

a break in the treats

Let's have a little break on candies, shall we?
I don't know about you but I cannot live without fruit and vegetables. I need its freshness, its smell, its color...
Every time I go to the grocery I realize that the majority of the fruit and vegetables come from California state. So, back in San Francisco I went to a farmer's market: It was Heaven!! A-ma-zing! Check for yourself ;)

treat number 2

A good bowl of cereals and milk is still my favorite breakfast. Clusters (of Nestlè) with cold milk, or even Corn Flakes with warm milk and a touch of coffee powder. oh yes! Oh, by the way, here the cereals taste quite different, because of the amount of sugar. More, they don't know how delicious Chocapic, Clusters or even Nestum are.
Another mental exercise for you: imagine the awesomeness of the Rice Krispie cereal mixed with peanut butter and marshmallows to glue them :) Double Yes! (I'm turning very American, don’t you think?)

treat number 1

Everything about caramel popcorn! Please, grab everything that you have on your pantry and just caramel it ;) if you are portuguese, I don't think you´ll have these things on your pantry but just try to mix some sweets and salty and have fun! You'll surely impress your friends and yourself! enjoy! :)
