children are the best thing in the world!

Let me rephrase: being a kid is the best thing in the world! ahah You play silly games, you run around like crazy, you make friends instantly, you are pampered all the time,...
Check the photos that I took during the Folk festival, of this group of kids. They were amazing, smiling and playing with me all the time :)

The Apple pie

Apple pie is the best-known example of a fruit pie. It's a pie very popular around here, specially at this time of the year when the apples can be freshly picked from the trees. I present you the american-style apple pie, this beautiful double crusted pie.
The apples are the queens of this dessert but the crust is huge deal here too.
There is a lot of tricks for having a perfect pie crust. Keeping the dough cool, refrigerate it between steps and before baking to promote a flaky crust and help the pie maintain its shape. For fullest flavor, use a blend of apples in a pie.
The ingredients are very simple, probably you will have in your pantry. So, run to the kitchen and start doing it!

a little Italian festival

Some photos of the Italian festival in Richmond. Some pastas, pizzas, cannolis, wine and music! Simple and cozy as this :)
But now I have a question! Richmond has a greek festival, an italian festival, an Oktoberfest, a french film festival... what about a portuguese festival?? Common! or an Iberian festival, for instance... Oh Richmond, Richmond!... ahah

multicultural food

the best (customize) hamburger ever! Los Angeles

One of the best things in living in USA is experiencing the multiculturality! Richmond is not quite the best example, but still, the chance of finding food from around the world is pretty high. During the super amazing trip this summer, we ate a lot of different food, so I decided to revive it in this post. I wish I had photograph every single meal just to show you...oh well, next time! ;)
Enjoy!

Las Vegas, baby!

Gambling, shopping and fine dining, Las Vegas is the Sin city! We only stayed one day in Las Vegas and it was the day I took more photos… Las Vegas has so many cool and extravagant hotels. It’s really crazy! It’s kind of a Disneyland for adults. The gambling and entertainment industry (ui!) in Las Vegas is mostly focused in the Las Vegas Strip. Actually we didn’t have the chance to go downtown.

The first major resort development was the Mirage (check the photos) opened in 1989, after that was just resort, after resort! There is the The Venezian with its gondolas, the beautiful and magnificient The Caesers Palace, The Bellagio with its famous dancing fountains, The Treasure Islands for a more pirate look, The Paris and its replica of the Eiffel Tower, The New York, among many others. New York with a small Manhattan,.. I mean!…. On the Strip you can find fifteen of the world's top 25 largest hotels by room, with a total of over 62,000 rooms! Incredible! Oh, I think that Mr. Sinatra was wrong, Las Vegas is the city that never sleeps! ahah

But you know, I guess I need to go back because I didn’t get married, or drunk or even spent my money gambling.. ahah

Grand and marvelous Canyon

Here they are: Photos from Grand Canyon!!
It’s 446 km long, up to 29 km wide and a depth of over 1,800 meters. It’s Grand guys! Grand Canyon is a canyon carved by the Colorado River, located in the state of Arizona. It’s a joy for all geologists, geographers and nature lovers.
Thousands of years ago, the area was inhabited by Native Americans who built settlements within the canyon and its many caves, they considered the Grand Canyon a holy place. The first European known to have viewed the Grand Canyon was García López de Cárdenas from Spain, who arrived in 1540.
I was so excited to go to Grand Canyon!! But I have to tell you that it was a long and exhaustive trip from Las Vegas to GC (It was what? 5-6h?) . The bus catched us at the hotel in Las Vegas very early in the morning… The trip started at the Hoover Dam, this large concrete structure between the states of Arizona and Nevada (the goal of this structure was to support a dam that would control floods, provide irrigation water and generate hydroelectric power). After some more hours driving, we stopped for lunch and for  the IMAX Grand Canyon movie experience (I strongly recommend it! The images from Grand Canyon are incredible and the screen is huge!!). A couple of hours more and finally!!, the Grand Canyon! I mean, I was like the donkey from Shrek asking: “Are we there yet? Are we there yet?”
I really loved the tour: it was breathtaking...but I wanted mooore! Next time, I need to take the helicopter for a better view!
