Pumpkin cinnamon rolls

I looove cinnamon! I mean, who doesn't? And then with cinnamon, it comes ginger, cloves, nutmeg and we have The Pumpkin Spice, the Autumn spices! Combined with pumpkin, orange or apples, it's just the perfect marriage!
So, for this month, the recipe is Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls, these beautiful swirls with cinnamon and brown sugar. This version has pumpkin in the dough, peeerfection!!

Long weekend

What an awesome weekend!! I really like this idea of doing a turkey and reuniting the friends: the so called Friendsgiving! eheh The meal was delicious! Turkey with mashed potatoes and green beans, stuffing balls, gravy, cheese dipping,  pumpkin pie, sweet potato with marshmallows and a chocolate french desert.
This long weekend I had everything that I deserved: leftovers, I went to black friday, we had Thai food, on saturday we went to the apples place (2nd round, yeah!!!), an afternoon on Charllostville (cute little town) and of course a spinning class on Sunday morning to burn some calories and to start the week with a lot of energy! Life is good!

Apples addition

Ok, I confess! I may have an addition, but a good addition. Guys, in one month I ate two large bags of apples! lol But hey, is not just apples, they are fresh apples from the Orchard that I handly picked! Crisp, fresh and delicious... everything that you are looking for when you eat an apple.
But let's rewind, some weeks ago on that lab trip, we went to pick apples in a Orchard at Charlottesville, in our way back home. What an fantastic experience! You pick the apples, you enjoy the nature (and the poison ivy! lol), you eat one apple or two in between ahah, you have apple cider, apple cider donuts, apple butter and everything related with apples :) There is so many varieties of apples... is very interesting! I picked the ones called winesnap, jonagold (?) and granny smith. Funny fact: I don't find here in US the variety 'reineta' and 'bravo esmolfe', and they are my favorite for being so different!
I need to go again and fill a couple of bags. lol

Grand Caverns

Hey everyone!
I have some pictures of the Grand Caverns that I want to show you. Last month, we went for a lab trip to the mountains (west of the state of Virginia - Harrisonburg) and in our way back home we stopped in this beautiful caverns! They are located in the central Shenandoah Valley and it claims the distinction of being America's oldest show cave in operation since 1806. This is what wikipedia told me, because the guide only talked about how some stalactites/formations looked like pizza, hot dogs, candies, champagne bottles, ... I don't know, I think she was hungry!
One curious fact though is that the cavern served as a ballroom in the 1800's. Can you imagine, the band music, the refreshments and the ladies with those big fluffy dresses, dancing only with candle light?

Let me rephrase: being a kid is the best thing in the world! ahah You play silly games, you run around like crazy, you make friends instantly, you are pampered all the time,...

The Apple pie

Apple pie is the best-known example of a fruit pie. It's a pie very popular around here, specially at this time of the year when the apples can be freshly picked from the trees. I present you the american-style apple pie, this beautiful double crusted pie.
The apples are the queens of this dessert but the crust is huge deal here too.
There is a lot of tricks for having a perfect pie crust. Keeping the dough cool, refrigerate it between steps and before baking to promote a flaky crust and help the pie maintain its shape. For fullest flavor, use a blend of apples in a pie.
The ingredients are very simple, probably you will have in your pantry. So, run to the kitchen and start doing it!

a little Italian festival

Some photos of the Italian festival in Richmond. Some pastas, pizzas, cannolis, wine and music! Simple and cozy as this :)
But now I have a question! Richmond has a greek festival, an italian festival, an Oktoberfest, a french film festival... what about a portuguese festival?? Common! or an Iberian festival, for instance... Oh Richmond, Richmond!... ahah

multicultural food

the best (customize) hamburger ever! Los Angeles

One of the best things in living in USA is experiencing the multiculturality! Richmond is not quite the best example, but still, the chance of finding food from around the world is pretty high. During the super amazing trip this summer, we ate a lot of different food, so I decided to revive it in this post. I wish I had photograph every single meal just to show you...oh well, next time! ;)
Enjoy!

Las Vegas, baby!

Gambling, shopping and fine dining, Las Vegas is the Sin city! We only stayed one day in Las Vegas and it was the day I took more photos… Las Vegas has so many cool and extravagant hotels. It’s really crazy! It’s kind of a Disneyland for adults. The gambling and entertainment industry (ui!) in Las Vegas is mostly focused in the Las Vegas Strip. Actually we didn’t have the chance to go downtown.

The first major resort development was the Mirage (check the photos) opened in 1989, after that was just resort, after resort! There is the The Venezian with its gondolas, the beautiful and magnificient The Caesers Palace, The Bellagio with its famous dancing fountains, The Treasure Islands for a more pirate look, The Paris and its replica of the Eiffel Tower, The New York, among many others. New York with a small Manhattan,.. I mean!…. On the Strip you can find fifteen of the world's top 25 largest hotels by room, with a total of over 62,000 rooms! Incredible! Oh, I think that Mr. Sinatra was wrong, Las Vegas is the city that never sleeps! ahah

But you know, I guess I need to go back because I didn’t get married, or drunk or even spent my money gambling.. ahah
