the wharf, the chowder and the bread

Fisherman’s wharf, sourdough bread and clam chowder; do you Know what I’m talking about?

Fisherman’s wharf is one of the busiest and well known tourist attractions in San Francisco where you can find Pier 39 (sea lions!!), the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, the Cannery Shopping Center, the Ghirardelli Square (chocolate!!), a Wax Museum, Forbes Island, restaurants and stands that serve fresh seafood!

And then, you have the clam chowder served in a sourdough bread bowl... it is THE thing in SF. It was so tasty that I repeated the meal in a couple of different places and I even brought it home!! Clam chowder is a cream-based soup, commonly made with potatoes, onion, perhaps celery and pieces of bacon and clams, garnished with parsley. The sourdough bread is just a type of bread very popular in SF that has a distinctively tangy or sour taste, because of the lactic acid produced by yeast. It's similar to our "Pão alentejano". Saudades...
Now, the photos! And look, there it is the Pacific Ocean!! I put my portuguese feet into it, yeah!
